In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when everything felt uncertain, we called on our family, friends, and global community of cooks to share recipes with us that offer them comfort in tough times. Pastry chef Zoe Kanan responded with her go-to challah recipe, our culinary director Arielle Nir shared her family’s saffron and rose water ice cream, and Berkshires-based culinary educator Anna Gershenson taught us to make her mother Rhoda’s chopped herring served with rye bread. We also added a few recipes from our archive to the collection. Many of them can be made with pantry items you likely already have on hand. These are our “tradish.”
