Sesame Seed Rolls

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 ¼ cup lukewarm water
  • 1 egg, whisked, for wash
  • 1-2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Preparation

  • Step 1

    Place the flour, yeast, olive oil, salt, sugar, and water in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook. Knead on medium until dough comes together and starts to pull away from the side of the mixing bowl, about 10 minutes. Turn out onto a clean work surface and knead by hand until smooth and uniform, about 5 more minutes. Place in a clean bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

  • Step 2

    Preheat the oven to 375°F.

  • Step 3

    Turn the dough out onto a clean work surface and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece out into an 8 inch rope and tie in a knot.

  • Step 4

    Brush each knot with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  • Step 5

    Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
