Ingredients

  • 3 slices of white bread, crust removed and soaked in water
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small russet potato, peeled and grated
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 6 tablespoons bread crumbs

Preparation

  • Step 1

    Drain the soaked bread and add to a medium mixing bowl. Add in the ground beef, potato, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, salt and pepper. Mix until combined well.

  • Step 2

    Form the mixture into 8 patties, about 3 to 4 inches wide and about ¾ inch thick. Transfer the patties to a plate. Pour the breadcrumbs into a separate shallow bowl.

  • Step 3

    Heat a large skillet with 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Working in batches of 2 to 3 patties at a time, coat the patties in breadcrumbs and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 4 minutes on each side.

  • Step 4

    Transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel. Serve warm.
